The Unity Trap

Is Your “Peace” Costing You the Truth?

“Doctrine divides, but service unites.”

You’ve likely heard some version of this sentiment. It sounds noble, right? Why argue over theological details when we could be feeding the hungry or fighting for a cause together?

Here is the hard truth: Unity without doctrine is a trap.

The “Puffing” of Personalities

We live in an era of “Celebrity Christianity.” We follow the great debaters, the charismatic speakers, and the influential leaders. We treat their platforms like modern churches. But the Bible warns us that it is possible to be impressed by a man’s intellect, his memory, or his speaking ability, while he is simultaneously leading you away from sound doctrine.

If your faith is based on who is speaking rather than what is being spoken, you are standing on sand.

The Subtle Art of Deception

The most dangerous lies are the ones that sound almost true. The devil is a master of the “mix.” He takes a grain of biblical truth and stirs in a dose of human philosophy, emotion, or political ideology.

This is why 1 Thessalonians 5:21 is so critical: “Prove all things, hold fast that which is good.”

If you aren’t actively testing what you hear against the Word of God, you aren’t being “open-minded”—you are being gullible. You are allowing “leaven” to enter your faith. As Paul wrote, a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. A small compromise in doctrine today becomes a total departure from the faith tomorrow.

The Myth of “Universal” Unity

For over a hundred years, there has been a push for “ecumenicalism”—merging different beliefs into one big, inclusive tent. From the World Council of Churches to modern megachurches, the goal has been to dilute the Gospel to make it more acceptable to the masses.

But God does not call us to a vague, generic “spirituality.” He calls us to Truth.

Jesus did not come to bring a superficial peace to the world; He came to bring a sword of truth that divides the light from the darkness. Any “unity” that requires you to ignore the Bible or excuse heresy is a unity of the world, not a unity of the Spirit.

Stop Being a Novice

It is time to end the era of spiritual illiteracy. It is not enough to “believe in Jesus”; you must know which Jesus is being preached.

The Challenge: Stop following the crowd. Stop trusting the “experts.” Start the hard work of studying the Scriptures for yourself. Prove all things. Reject the counterfeit. Hold fast to the Truth, no matter how divisive it may seem.
